Easy Homemade Enchilada Sauce
I love this sauce. It is cheaper than store-bought sauce and doesn't have the bitter taste.
Servings: 2 cups
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 4 teaspoons canola oil
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 ounces tomato paste 1/3 cup
- 1 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar optional
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together chili powder, oregano, onion powder, cumin, and garlic powder. Set aside.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together cornstarch, stock, tomato paste, brown sugar, salt and pepper set aside.
- Heat oil in a 3-quart sauce pan over medium heat; add seasonings and stir constantly until fragrant (about 1 minute).
- Pour in the liquids and whisk to combine; increase heat to medium-high long enough to bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until thickened, stirring as needed.
